Learn these study skills and you can count on A's

by: Scott Palat

following these twelve tips, you're guaranteed to get AAAAA. Read each tip carefully.

1. Find a quiet area in your house where you

comfortable and can be isolated from distractions.

be sure that this space includes a chair, a table or desk

and sufficient lighting. Ask others not to disturbarte while you

be in this special location and turn off all phones, beepers,

televisions, videos, music, or anything else your mind will wander

instead to focus on schoolwork.

2. Find the best time to study. Some students tend to do their best work

as soon as they get home from school

while still in school mode. Others need to

to break and not settle down to study until after practice,

playtime, a bit of a nap, dinner and / or family. Just be sure to

forbid not enough time to get everything done and still

get enough sleep each night.

3. Organize your day, week, month, etc. put a specific measure

aside time each day to do your homework and studying.

Deciding on a reasonable minimum

spend time in this quiet place every day. For example, lets say you decide

45 minutes reasonable amount of time to devote to schoolwork

every day.

This means that although the preparation is completed in the first 35 minutes still remaining

in this area and examine or review the notes for

after 10 minutes to 45 are up.

4. Reward yourself for sticking to your schedule and be productive

. Decide on an activity to do once your study is completed

time. Plan on watching a television show

later in the afternoon. Tell you play five minutes a game

video for every fifteen minutes studying.

Create your goals and rewards before you start

study and work hard to achieve every day.

5. Variety is important. Vary the issues are going

timing study. Get

mandatory preparation of the way first and then go back and spend additional time reviewing material

of different courses each day. If you

the extra time spent that reviews history yesterday, passing additional sci

time tonight. Some topics

may take longer than others. You get a feel

for this a month or so in the school year.

6. Study difficult subjects first and get to

way. Material can absorb faster and make more connections

when you are mentally fresh.

7. Regular breaks the study of the shot. This can also serve as mini

reward. For example, say you're going to get

a drink or a snack or hear a specific song after you finish playing your notes

science. Make short breaks,

3-6 minutes or so, so you will not get diverted or

lose focus for the day.

8. Do not just re-read the notes or text. Ask questions.

Create flash-cards. Redo assignments. Create time-lines.

play games. Rewrite your notes. Get someone to quiz you. Find

websites online that review the same material.

do you think the questions are rising in the test. Create new

contours of writing material

some specific issues and completing the details of memory. The study should be

the active process, not just time spent re-read something.

9. When you need to remember a group of terms

use the first letter of each word to create a (short) or a sentence

(acrostic). For example, an easy way to remember the five Great Lakes are

"word? HOMES?. Just remembering

does the word? "Homes? can easily remember the names of the five Great Lakes

. H stands for Huron, OR to Ontario, M

to Michigan, and so on. You can also create

silly sentences to help you remember long lists of terms. To

"case, recalling the prayer?

"Martha visits every Monday, just stay until noon, period? ,

help you remember the planets in the order found.

M for Mercury, V for visits, E for Earth, etc..

10. Become a teacher. Find someone who is willing to listen

do you? , A classmate (this would be a great review for them),

Mom or Dad, brother, the family dog? and explain your

notes to them. Have them (except the dog)

ask questions about the material that they do not understand.

's amazing how much you keep when you have to actually teach the material

someone.

11. Repetition, repetition, repetition.

material should become second nature to you for the moment you arrive the day of the test.

If not, then you need to spend more time preparing for the test

.

12. Exercise often and before you sit down to study. Research shows that

Students retain more after being physically active

. Go to soccer practice, take a jog,

rough-house with your dog, break a sweat first, then

settle down and focus on your schoolwork.
